Best Breweries on the North Shore

September 4, 2019

If you are a beer connoisseur and happen to be visiting the North Shore of Massachusetts, then you are in for a treat! We have some amazing breweries all along the coast that promise a great meal, picturesque vistas and, of course, the perfect brew. Make a day of it and explore the many breweries the North Shore has to offer.

Cape Ann Brewing Company

Located right here on Cape Ann in Gloucester, the Cape Ann Brewing Company offers “a brand that not only exemplifies all that is encompassed in the passion and creativity in the world of craft beer but also the grit and courage of the North Atlantic Fishing fleet.” The Pub at Cape Ann Brewing offers outdoor harbor-side seating as well as a casual, community-oriented atmosphere inside with long beer hall-style tables. Cape Ann Brewing has been handcrafting beers since 2004. They incorporate time-honored traditions with the latest trends and styles to offer a varied draft selection that can please any palate. Check them out just minutes from The Pleasant Street Inn at 11 Rogers Street in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

True North Ale Company

Next on our list of breweries to visit is the True North Ale Company in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The taproom offers fifteen beer styles with most available in growlers to go. A highlight of the spacious taproom is enormous picture windows looking directly onto the work platforms of our two stainless steel brew houses and the serpentine path of our high-speed canning line. Individuals and groups of all sizes enjoy a comfortable setting in which to socialize, whether along our high-top bars, at long communal tables, or outdoors on the patio. Located about 20 minutes from the Pleasant Street Inn, the trip is well worth the ride.

Notch Brewery and Tap Room

The Notch Brewery and Tap Room is located in historic Salem, Massachusetts is just about a thirty-minute drive from Pleasant Street Inn. Not only can you grab a pint if your favorite sessions beer but you can explore old town Salem while you’re at it. Launched in 2010, Notch Brewing – named for the nick made to keep a record when you’re having more than one – was the first brewing company in the U.S. to focus exclusively on session beer. They set out to brew the world’s classic session styles from the Czech Republic, Germany, England, and Belgium, as well as explore how session beer could fit with the U.S.’s hoppy beer infatuation.

BareWolf Brewing

BareWolf Brewing is located in Amesbury, Massachusetts, just a half hour drive from Pleasant Street Inn. BareWolf Brewing is a family and friends operated-business located in the northeast corner of Massachusetts. They almost never make the same beer twice, so enjoy what you’re holding because you might never have it again! Nestled on the first floor of an antique mill building, BareWolf offers a taproom space, live music sets, and a laid-back atmosphere reminiscent of your childhood basement rumpus room.

So if you are visiting our Inn this fall to watch the spectacular show the foliage puts on, visit some of these breweries on your drive through the countryside. You won’t regret it.
