Our Inn in its 23rd Season!
How the Inn came about ... is a story of love of something beautiful, and the pride and enjoyment of sharing this grandeur with our guests, spanning 23 years. Roger and I selected this strategically sited property to begin our career as innkeepers for reasons that go well beyond the Inn's architectural stature; its welcoming ambiance, many creature comforts and picturesque setting overlooking the quintessential New England village...Rockport. Roger, the builder in my life, was immediately attracted to the Inn's structural character and architectural detail..."its got good bones, great style, and New England charm throughout". Additionally, the generously proportioned windows and the abundant natural light they hold remain a constant source of energy.

Our welcoming foyer, sign in please

Upon entering the Inn's spacious foyer with its original sculpted tin ceiling, robust newel post and staircase leading to your room, you will begin to see what attracted us during our first visit.
The accommodations page,
provides a selection of individual perspectives that define, in part, the unique qualities of each of our guest rooms. While each room has its own charm and character, the appointments have a common thread creating a pleasing, comforting feeling. Diagonally across the way is our restored carriage house with a 2nd level that reveals a fully appointed suite overlooking our vegetable garden.
Each morning our sun-splashed first floor dining room welcomes you to the Inn's Continental Breakfast Plus , the ideal, nutritious start for an active day. The foyer also leads you to the Inn's living room serving your needs for a relaxing read, a source for news of the day, and to plan the day's travel.

Perennial gardens along the front porch

With ambitious plans each May , we approach the planting of our sizable vegetable garden. We aim for a full array of vegetables ...asparagus, summer squash, eggplant, beans ... raspberries in July & September.
From the generously proportioned open porch with its folk-art mural, your eye catches the graceful sloping lawn with mature trees and colorful plantings revealing scenic, distant vistas across the village. However, these are grounds made for a picnic. In addition, you'll find seating
randomly placed for those quiet moments, a serious horseshoe pit beside the veggie garden, croquet is ideal for the front lawn ... and a real country swing.

It's location, location... our strategic location to conveniently access the many sites, activities, and events that define the essence of New England. The panoramic coastline, a seat of history in the founding of a nation, renowned architecture, nature's pristine venues, world-class cultural performances, a haven for the sporting life, shopping experiences that span refined crafts to international couture; an superb reputation for multi-cultural cuisine, and New Englanders who graciously embrace our region's visitors - - it's all part of the magic of New England. Our "Inn Picks" page presents a listing of special venues and memorable events not to be missed!
Take a look at our PSI Map of the Region page ... for an easy on the eye introduction to the Massachusetts coastline, New Hampshire, coastal Maine...and our Cape Ann location along the storied North Shore ... ours is an ideally positioned "home base" for day trips throughout the region.

However, everything begins here in Rockport , the neighboring port city of Gloucester, home to the filming of the "Perfect Storm", the winding marshes of Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea -- the communities of Cape Ann. Among the wide array seasonal activities and sites, on land and at sea, are the internationally acclaimed Rockport Chamber Music Festival performances, the acclaimed Gloucester Stage Company, Windover Performing Arts, The Cape Ann Symphony, numerous museums, a Mecca for the fine and culinary arts - simply great dining, a favorite location for motion pictures, and yes, even casino cruises - Cape Ann is the place to be.
Along with our seasoned staff, we look forward to your inquiries and to hosting your visit.
For Roger, family and staff,

Lynne Norris, Innkeeper
